Van Ness Study Center is a non-profit center that aims to inspire, educate, and mentor women to have a positive influence on society through their work, studies, and family responsibilities. Through its cultural, educational, and service programs, Van Ness seeks to enable women to lead meaningful, committed, and happy lives as students, professionals, wives, and mothers.  

The spiritual and doctrinal aspects of activities sponsored by Van Ness are entrusted to Opus Dei, a personal Prelature of the Catholic Church. Opus Dei (Latin for "Work of God") is a personal Prelature of the Catholic Church that helps ordinary lay people seek holiness in and through their everyday activities, especially through work. It was founded in 1928 by a Catholic priest, St. Josemaría Escrivá. He died in 1975 and was canonized by Pope John Paul II on October 6, 2002.
